Kebahan Dayak. Melawi River, West-Central Kalimantan, Borneo Island, Indonesia.
Hardwood. Full height from bottom of post to top of bird: 90" (228.6 cm), full length from end of tail to nose of deer head: 86" (218.4 cm).
The bottom post height is 50" (127 cm). The lid length is 37.75" (95.9 cm), width: 18" (45.7 cm), height: 7" (17.8 cm).
A rare complete Sandung in the form of a deer (Sandung Rusa).
Because of the size, I was not able to photograph this in a studio setting, so these photos were taken in my backyard.
I photoshopped two of those photos and created neutral backdrops, so the Sandung can be seen without the distractions in the background.
In the second of these photos, you can more easily see the subtle shaping of the lid, with scooped out inside edges.
There are still traces of the original paint on the edges of the box and post, an area protected from the elements.
It is mounted on a flat wood base (that can be replaced with a metal plate).
