dfds1: Tattoo Block?
Dayak. Borneo Island, Indonesia.
Hardwood. H: 13.9" (35.3 cm), W: 1.5" (3.8 cm), D: 1.1" (2.8 cm).
The object is not mounted, but a custom mount could be arranged for an additional cost.
Wood block or stick with carved motifs on the front and back sides.
The "front" side has a female figure at the top with motifs carved in low relief.
The "back" has additional motifs carved in low relief.
I believe this is a tattoo block, possibly used by women for leg tattoos.
Ex: Christensen Fund collection. Numbers are painted on the bottom end of the object.
