cjhb2: Sculpture.

Unknown Dayak group. West Kalimantan, Borneo Island, Indonesia.
Hardwood. H: 41.25" (104.8 cm), W: 8.5" (21.6 cm), D: 5" (12.7 cm).

Standing figure with elongated face and hands held up to chest.
This was found in the same area of western Borneo as the famous "Hollowback" figures, recently published in
Bernard De Grunne's "Dayak" catalog. It has a similar look, especially with the shape of the head and placement of the hands.
However, this figure was cut from the top of a post (the original "Hollowbacks" were not and appear to not stand at all), it does
not have a hollowed out area in the back, and is not as ancient as the other figures. It may have been made by the same group but
with a different purpose.
