4719: Singha Lion Temple Figure
Bali Island, Indonesia..
Wood. H: 14.5" (36.8 cm), W: 5" (12.7 cm), D: 10" (25.4 cm).
A temple figure in the form of a Singha Lion with wings and a lotus flower motif at the front base.
There is a slot in the back that may have once held a tail.
It is likely this piece comes from the rural highlands area of Bali, possibly from Sebatu-Taro.
Vigorous and more stylized, their imagery is a combination of Hindu characters
and a more tribal aesthetic rooted in traditions dating back to pre-Hinduism.
