Hardwood. H: 9.5" (24.1 cm), W: 5.75" (14.6 cm), D: 6" (10.2 cm).

This wood head depicts a guardian spirit in the form of a mythical dragon (Aso), originally mounted at the end of a roof cross beam.
Such figures, along with other similar figures on other cross beams, served as spiritual protectors, facing outward to ward off malevolent spirits and
physical enemies. These decorative elements were typically reserved for the houses or shrines of prominent nobles, symbolizing protection and status.
