4492: Ritual Dish

Kayanic Dayak complex (probably Bahau). East Kalimantan, Borneo Island, Indonesia.
Wood. H: 3.75" (9.5 cm), Dia: 5" (12.7 cm).

A ritual dish, used for mixing medicines, or possibly ink for tattoos,
with an Aso handle that is crawling along the top rim. The Aso is a symbol
of the lower world and a powerful guardian figure, reserved for the highest
status noble families.
