4407: Ritual Bowl.
Kayanic-Dayak complex. East Kalimantan, Borneo Island, Indonesia.
Hardwood. L: 14" (35.6 cm), W: 6.5" (15.5 cm), H: 1.75" (4.5 cm).
Ritual bowl with handle depicting a dragon guardian figure (Aso). An unusual feature of this bowl is the shape
is wider at the back end. Most bowls of this type are wider at the end closer to the handle.
Ex: Fred Wessman collection, Houston, TX.
Mr Wessman was a geophysicist working for Exxon in Sarawak during the late 1960s and collected numerous Dayak artifacts at that time.
