The dhodro banam is a type of lute played with a bow, similar to a violin, but with the instrument held in the vertical position.
The instrument is decorated at the top with a group of two male and two female dancers. There are three additional male dancers
along the lower back and sides, all carved in high relief. The upper and lower back has botanical motifs etched in low relief.
The is one of the best examples of this type of Santal lute that I have come across. It is carved from heavy dense hardwood, but is balanced
and easy to hold when played. The surface is beautifully polished from untold decades of ceremonial use.
