Mystery Mask. Indonesia?
Hardwood. H: 11.75" (29.8 cm), W: 7.75" (19.7 cm), 6.5" (16.5 cm).
Unidentified hardwood mask with rich black-brown patina. Found in a collection of
Indonesia artifacts and assumed by the owner to be Indonesian. It has some qualities
that could fit that description, but if from Indonesia, it is a unique example.
It does have a wonderful animated expression, with large ears, long nose, raised
eyebrows, and refined mouth. Perhaps an old Timor mask that represents a European colonist.
Some condition issues: minor holes and tears, but in otherwise very good condition for its age.
