4170: Lute "Dhodro Banam".

Santal, Munda people. Bihar, Orissa, or West Bengal states, India.
Wood, animal hide. H: 26.5" (67.5 cm). Mounted on metal plate.
The dhodro banam is a type of lute played with a bow, similar to a violin, but with the instrument held in the vertical position.
The instrument is decorated at the top with a large carving in the round of a human head.
