Dayak (reported as Bahau). Borneo Island, Indonesia.
Hardwood, metal, rattan. L: 67.25" (170.8 cm).
Although functional with a perfectly straight hand drilled hole and metal sight at the end, the flatter sides (instead of a tube-shape)
and the additional figurative carving along the full length of the shaft would indicate this was a ceremonial or presentation piece.
The entire length and circumference of the shaft is carved with fluted lines. There are four spirit figures, two on each side,
with swollen bellies and female sex, that likely represent pregnant women. One of these figures appears to be giving
birth, as there is a head like object between her thighs. There are four figures that appear to represent squids or star fish.
Additional double rings or circles are found in groups of three along both sides of the shaft, as well as what could be a
double serpent wrapped around the center.
