4008: Guardian Statue.
Unknown Dayak group (possibly Kayanic). East Kalimantan, Borneo Island, Indonesia.
Hardwood. H: 34.5" (87.6 cm), W: 4.25" (10.8 cm), D: 5" (12.7 cm).
Unusual sculpture of a figure with an elongated head, implied eyes, long nose, extended tougue, and squatteing in the hunkered position,
with arms under the thighs, but holding onto the outside of the leg, under the knees.
There is another image behind the tongue that may represent an object held between the knees of the main figure.
The sculpture has eroded nearly hollow inside the tube-like structure, but stable on the outside.
