3868: Ritual Dagger "Dohong".

Tomun Dayak. Central Kalimantan, Borneo Island, Indonesia.
Bronze handle and metal blade. Height: 15.5” (39.4 cm). With wood/rattan sheath, that is certainly a replacement.
Both the dagger and the sheath are mounted separately, so the dagger could be displayed by itself.

Acquired from the noble bloodline of a Tomun Dayak (sometimes spelled Tumon) village in the Lamandau regency of Central Kalimantan.
The Lamandau regency is in the south-western most region of Central Kalimantan, near the border with West Kalimantan. The Tomun Dayak are ethnically part of the
Ngaju Dayak group that dominate Central Borneo. It is reported this Dohong had been in the family for many generations. It is definitely very old, ancient in my opinion,
certainly as old as any I have come across. I love the simple shape of these old handles and straight double sided blades, made long before the Mandau was introduced.
