mjm2: Headhunting Sword ("Mandau").

Kayanic Dayak complex (probably Modang). East Kalimantan, Borneo Island, Indonesia.
Wood, rattan, antler, metal. L: 23" (58.4 cm).
Heavy blade with metal inlay and mysterious carved figures on the handle. It appears that the main creature on the handle is devouring another creature.
The sheath has a beautiful pattern on the wood, with stylized animal motifs carved on the front. The two halves of the sheath are bound with detailed rattan work.
The rattan belt was broken in the past and missing.
