981: Shrine Guardian.

Kayanic Dayak complex. East Kalimantan, Borneo Island, Indonesia.
Hardwood. H: 17" (43.2 cm), W: 21" (53.3 cm), D: 7" (17.8 cm).
Large scale (and heavy) guardian mask/face from the end of a noble family's ancestral shrine. Probably represents a thunder spirit.
Note: the arms come out the front of face and curve back towards the mouth, resting just below the nose.
