3688: Ceremonial Beaded Hanging (Kandaure).

Toraja. Sulawesi Island, Indonesia .
Glass seed beads, threads. Full H: 64" (162.6 cm), Top section H: 20.75" (52.7 cm), Max Dia: 14.5" (36.8 cm).
Beaded hanging with rows of ancestral figures in white at the top and abstract anthropomorphic figures around the main panel.
These pieces were status symbols usually displayed as canopies at the top of tall posts (similar to the modern mount shown in photos) within the ceremonial area.
Additionally, some were worn over the shoulders of female dancers with the motifs on the back and the long beaded fringes tied around the front.
This example is especially beautiful with a rich color combination of rarer blue and green beads. Most examples emphsize orange, black, and white beads.
With custom steal mount.
