2895: Sculpture of a Nobleman.

Dayak (probably Kenyah). East Kalimantan, Borneo Island, Indonesia.
Hardwood. H: 27" (68.6 cm).
Rare standing figure representing a naturalistic image of a nobleman or war chief, wearing an elaborate dragon headdress,
a war cloak with two hornbill images at each of the lower front corners, and a traditional loincloth.
The hornbill and dragon images are powerful protective figures and symbols of high status.
