Unknown Dayak group, West Kalimantan Borneo Island, Indonesia.
Hardwood. L: 55" (140 cm), W:18" (46 cm), D: 5" (12.5 cm). 19th century or earlier.
Large, heavy funnel for pressed sugar cane (or other) juices.
The funnel, when mounted vertically and lit properly reveals a mask with dark areas as eyes, the central stem as a nose,
and the "V" shape at the bottom as a mouth. (see last image showing proper lighting that emphasizes the mask imagery)
The piece was recovered from river mud and has the surface of other ancient objects found in similar circumstances.
It has not been carbon dated at this time, but would likely date very early.
