2678F: Female Ancestral Figure.

Ngaju Dayak. Central Kalimantan, Borneo Island, Indonesia.
Hardwood, pigments. H: 43" (109 cm). Early 20th century.
The female figure of the ancestral couple (with 2678M), representing the clan or village founders.
The female holds three hornbill feathers, that are pressed against her chest.
Both figures were part of a small house like structure or ancestral crypt.
Parts of the backs of each figure were cut away to accommodate structural elements.
