1435: Beaded Baby Carrier Panel.
Kenyah Dayak. East Kalimantan, Borneo Island, Indonesia.
Glass seed beads, fibers. Bead panel H: 10.25" (26 cm), W: 11.25" (28.6 cm). Early to mid 20th century.
Beaded talsmanic panel usually placed on the back of a rattan baby carrier. The motifs were meant to protect the baby as well as show the status of the family.
With protective godly figure in the middle, dragon headed figures in each of the lower corners, emerging from each knee,
at each side of the main figure, and in various areas of the background.
The panel is professionally mounted on acid free cloth over museum board. Mount H: 14.5" (36.8 cm), W: 15.5" (39.4 cm).
